Update on Upgrade to Web Plus V12:
We are pleased to announce that MCR has converted to Web Plus Version 12 as of
August 1, 2011.
For WebPlus Direct Entry users:
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recently released a new version of the web-based electronic abstract to document and collect cancer information for patients initially diagnosed and/or treated with a diagnosis of cancer in the state of Maryland. WebPlus Version 3.0 will include an expansion of the data collection requirements to correspond with and support the reporting standards of the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) implemented in 2010. The Maryland Cancer Registry has completed conversion from WebPlus Version 2.0 to Version 3.0 with the new version of electronic abstracts available Monday, August 1, 2011; The MCR is in the process of preparing educational materials that will assist reporters in becoming familiar with changes within the Version 3.0 electronic abstract; as with WebPlus Version 2.0 the new version provides prompts that will explain the fields and data format required in these fields.
A brief overview of the format and documentation changes in WebPlus Version 3.0 include but are not limited to the following changes:

Date format - The format has been changed; please see the instructions below:
- YYYYMMDD applies when complete date is known and valid (date of diagnosis, date of surgery, etc.)
- YYYYM applies when the year and month are known and valid but the day is unknown
- YYYY applies when the year is known and valid but month and day are unknownYYYYM applies when the year and month are known and valid but the day is unknown
- If a date is unknown the field is left blank

Age at Diagnosis - The age calculator provided on WebPlus Version 3.0 abstracts for hospital and non-hospital facilities is functioning correctly; please document the date of birth, date of 1st contact in the format provided under ‘Date format (see above). Failure to follow the WebPlus Version 3.0 format for date may result in age at diagnosis calculation errors. Codes that will be displayed in the age calculation include:
- 000 - Less than 1 year old
- 001 - 1 year old, but less than 2 years
- 002 - 2 years old
- 101 - 101 years old
- 120 - 120 years old
- 999 - Unknown age

Class of Case - The field has been expanded to include the most specific description of class of case relative to the facility where the primary tumor was initially diagnosed and/or treated. To access the expanded list please refer to drop down menu in Class of Case Field and make the most appropriate selection.
- Laterality – two additional options to best describe laterality of the primary tumor
- 0 - Not a paired site
- 1 - Right origin of primary
- 2 - Left origin of primary
- 3 - Only one side involved, right or left not specified
- 4 - Bilateral, single primary
- 5 - Paired site, midline tumor
- Lymph-Vascular Invasion (LVI) – a new field indicating if lymphatic duct or blood vessel invasion documented on pathology report
- 0 Lymph-vascular invasion stated as Not Present
- 1 Lymph-vascular invasion present/identified
- 8 Not applicable
- 9 Unknown/Indeterminate/Not mentioned in path report
- Stage/Prognostic Factors – Expanded to include additional information to best describe clinical and pathologic findings that provide staging and prognostic factors regarding the patient’s diagnosis.

The current versions of all Web Plus applications conform to NAACCR Version 12.0 and Collaborative Stage Version 02.02. Future systems upgrades to NAACCR Versions 12.2 – 12.4 and Collaborative Stage Version 02.03 – 02.04 will be required by June, 2012.
WebPlus direct entry Reporters provide information from multiple facility types including hospital, ambulatory surgery, pathology lab, physician office and radiation oncology centers; examples in this e-mail are not inclusive of all the changes within the abstract. Non-hospital facilities may not have information to complete all fields but when available the information is invaluable for cancer reporting to the State of Maryland.
